Putting up the sticks for Winter

I think I’m going to winterize the sticks. My last few rounds have been kinda blah. I have played too few rounds lately due to my business and the three small people who run around my house and make noise all night. On the other hand I have played too many scrambles. This was the year for winning scrambles and scramble prizes. John Smith (Smitty), Charles Williams, Greg Heldman and myself have posters hanging at most club houses in the area. They say don’t let these guys play in your scramble they’ll win all the prizes. I think we’re sitting on a month of free rounds at local courses, along with a cumulative total of about 8 challenge prizes (closest to the holes and long drives). The funny part is that the 4 of us have a combined handicap of 13 or so. No one is over a 5 in the group, so we should win a lot of scrambles. I guess we’ve just underachieved in years past.

I have placed in all the tournaments at Midland this year except the two I would like to win. I have been ousted in the first round of the Match Play championship in each of the last two years after winning it in 2006. I also didn’t fair very well in the club championship. I started Sunday in the final pairing but finished 7th after a blow up. My partner Tom Kelley and I won our 2-day Invitational Tournament. Our team placed 3rd or 4th in the Annual Club Scramble, and last but not least my partner Greg Hudleson and I placed 3rd in the Member/Member tournament. Greg said he just wanted a pair of footies or something. We were highly motivated.

Yet another year passed I wasn’t able to try and qualify for any local amateur or open tournaments. I also didn’t get to play in any local invitationals. I’ll trade that for the joy of watching my 3 year old little girl and my 2 year old little boy swing their golf clubs when they watch golf on TV with daddy.

I’ll put golf in the back of the mind. Good daydreaming material. The Masters is just around the corner.
