Attend One, Serve One

I have several new friends I’ve made over the last few months. Many of these friends attend Sojourn Community Church. I heard about Sojourn Church last year from a Leo article and a post from Eric Schansberg on his personal blog.

I was exploring Sojourn’s website recently after following several of Sojourn’s members and ministries on Twitter. I don’t have time in this post to explain Twitter, but I’d love to explain it if you email me bryce@simplifiedsolutionsllc.com . I noticed a couple cool things on their website. Number one they had two worship services on Sunday morning and two on Sunday evenings. I thought hey that’s neat. Then I saw something that said Attend One, Serve One. It said that this was a philosophy of Sojourn’s church and I might add and brilliant one.

I have blogged about the need for volunteers to step up at Southeast Christian here and here. This philosophy caught my attention and I thought I would share it. So instead of attending worship service and a weekend group how about attending one and serving one. You watch our children and we’ll watch yours. Amazingly simple. In place of the weekend group join a community group during the week. Guys join a DC class or accountability group. Ladies check into the weekly women’s studies or find a small accountability group.

Problem solved. Thanks Sojourn! Thanks Lord!
